The church, faith and spiritualism underpins many British African communities in London today. Study a London high street more closely and you will begin to notice a community that inhabits every available space. From above a car sales room to underneath a nightclub, African pentecostal churches inhabit anywhere they see fit to hold service. These places are very unassuming in fact when undertaking this project I had no idea there was a one above a car dealership by the road I lived on. However entering the space you realise that this is an epicentre for African christian communities. You're instantly hit by the sound of singing, praying, crying and shouting, which on Sunday reaches its peak and doesn’t stop for 6 hours. These are places for friends to socialise, birthday parties to be celebrated and business conferences to be discussed, it becomes more than just a place of worship. This was a project I developed for my dissertation at university and will be developed further.
