David 'The King' Star, formerly David Fergus, was a talented amateur boxer who trained with Brixton-born former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Danny Williams. At the age of 23 years old he had won all his bouts as a light-middleweight at the Lynn Boxing Club in Walworth and hoped to forge a professional career.
However at 10.30pm on April 30th, 1994, David Star was shot in the head with a sawn-off shotgun after walking out of a disco at the Albrighton Community Centre in Albrighton Road, East Dulwich. The gunman was believed to be aged between 15 and 18 and has never been brought to justice.
David 'The King' Star lost his left eye and was in a critical condition at Kings College Hospital for six months with shotgun pellets lodged in his brain. After years spent learning to walk and talk again, he decided to devote himself to educate kids about the dangers of gangs and gun crime.
Now he is a loveable london eccentric, who spends much of his time walking the streets of London in various hand-made outfits. His crown is cut out from various newspaper cuttings, some from articles about the night he was shot. He also has had a long spat with London Mayor Boris Johnson, who he claims ignores his plead for more gun crime education in schools. He pulls around a shopping trolly with a boxing glove and blonde wig splayed across the fist, explaining that Boris Johnson got in his way. He also usually wears a mask, which he humorously claims her wears to hide from Boris Johnson and his politics.
